Moreiraland or Empire of Moreiraland It is a micronation that proclaimed its independence on September 5, 2024 and since that day it has been ruled by Marcos Paulo initially as a republic and currently as an absolute monarchy since October 28, 2025 by Marcos Paulo who is now called Marcos I. The micronation proclaimed its independence from the Federative Republic of Brazil on September 5, 2024, independence was led by Marcos Paulo and Davi Lucas who was prime minister of the Republic of Moreiraland.

Etymology

The name Moreiraland comes from the surname of the ruling family, the Moreira family, the name of the micronation means Land of Moreira.

History

The micronation is formed by a family of Portuguese origins from the north of Portugal. The family settled in Brazil in the nineteenth century and the first documented family member is Francisco Gonçalves Moreira who is considered the first known leader of the Moreira family. Francisco married Maria Gonçalves Moreira, his cousin. The family remains in this city where they proclaimed the independence of Moreiraland on September 5, 2024, aiming for an independent and sovereign family microstate ruled by them. Marcos Paulo has ruled this micronation since independence, initially as president of the Republic of Moreiraland, and since October 28, 2025, as emperor with absolute power.

Geography

Moreiraland is located within the city of Imperatriz, Maranhão, Brazil where it controls an area equivalent to 400 square meters about 10 houses and 2 churches, the territory is constantly expanding with the accession of new citizens and annexation of new territories. There were more than 70 citizens as of November 2025. The climate is tropical with temperatures ranging from 32 to 40 degrees in the summer and 19 to 27 degrees in the winter. Summer lasts from May to December, while winter lasts from December to the end of April, with the wettest season being the months of March and April.

Economy

The Moreira group, which is a conglomerate of companies owned by the Moreira family, controls between 80% and 95% of Moreiraland's economy. The conglomerate operates in the area of stores, markets, private parking, fishing, agriculture, fruit growing, meat and should be present in the energy and water area in the future. The Moreira Group owns a football club called Moreira F.C and has 5% of the shares of Marília F.C. The Moreira family has an estimated fortune of more than 2 million dollars. Some sources say it could be a larger fortune of more than $5 million, added to the $1.6 million of the Nascimento family, which is linked to the Moreira family through marriages. Moreiraland's economy is driven largely by agriculture and tourism. The state is building a hotel in Moreiraland and modernizing the Francisco Palace which is the official residence and seat of the imperial government.

Communications

Moreiraland has a state-owned TV channel called Moreiraland TV (MTV) that broadcasts religious programming, cartoons, movies, series, national anthem every day, national and foreign patriotic songs from nations friendly or supported by Moreiraland. It also broadcasts speeches by the emperor. The Moreiraland government is also active on social networks such as X, Instagram, YouTube, Telegram and has a community on WhatsApp. The Moreira group is expected to launch its own radio station in 2026.

Culture

Moreiraland has more than 30 national holidays, the most important holidays are independence day and other holidays of national importance. Moreiraland has its own calendar called the Moreirlandic calendar, the Moreirlandic year begins on March 3 of the Gregorian calendar being 1 of Maria of the Moreirlandic calendar. The year begins to be counted from the birth of Maria on March 3, 1913, she is the great-grandmother of Emperor Marcos I. The year 2025 was the year 113 of the Moreiralandese calendar. The national dish is couscous.

Politics

Moreiraland became an absolute monarchy with Mark I becoming the emperor. There are currently restrictions on political parties and the opposition in addition to their stance against Israel, LGBTs and abortion. Marcos Paulo from the beginning began to work on the construction of a family state, on the development of the micronation and on the alliance with dozens of micronations with emphasis on the Sani Republic and Gabrielland that are protectorates. Moreiraland has no recognition of any country. In 3 months in the year 2025, Moreiraland managed to have recognition from Sealand, Liberland and Slowjamastan which are relevant micronations. Moreiraland maintains embassies in countries such as the US, Spain, Cuba and plans to open embassies in Turkey and Italy.

Law and order

Law and order is enforced by the armed forces and the police who enforce the laws of the micronation. Moreiraland, from the beginning, has always had aspects of an authoritarian leadership, which was consolidated when Moreiraland became an absolute monarchy. The micronation restricts LGBTs, abortion, euthanasia and has several prohibitions being called the North Korea of micronations. The micronation also maintains an intelligence and counterintelligence service called the State Security Council, which has 5 active members, as well as having a fire department and other important institutions.

Armed forces

The Moreiraland Armed Forces maintains a force of 25 soldiers, 5 motorcycles, 1 combat vehicle, 1 cargo vehicle, as well as 5 drones and defense weapons. The micronation plans to have firearms soon.

Sport

The national sport is football, the micronation has a football team called the Moreiralandesa Football Federation and 4 football teams, Marília F.C, the Steel Battalion, Pedreiros F.C and Moreira F.C which is the biggest football team.
